05:45 pm - How I got into Lolita
Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2 Berry1 Berry2

I first found out about lolita on my first trip to japan several years ago, at that stage I was aware of it, but not too interested in dressing in it myself. It wasnt until a couple years later that I seriously took a second look, the reason for doing that was another hobby that I have ball jointed dolls! My first doll I bought was back in 2007. It was a little while later that I found out about a brand called Baby the Stars Shine Bright. Volks the company that made my doll did a collaboration and released a dress set combined with a doll at one of their dolpas (short for dolls party which is a doll convention) The set was adorable and on futher reseach I found out about more collaborations they did. Soon after I got into collecting BTSSB dress sets. On one of my various google searches I came across one of the dresses that I had for my doll but on a person! That side tracked me onto other google searches culminating in a live journal search and a sale on garagesalejapan. Not long after I found EGL. This was that purchase....

Modelled by Flo my dressform and Momo my Volks SDGR BJD

Baby the stars Shine Bright Little Red Riding Hood One Piece Coat set sold at Dolpa Osaka 3 2007
Baby the stars Shine bright Little Red Riding Hood One Piece coat released in 2003, 2004, and 2006
A very popular design to be released so many times! I found the OP on garagesalejapan and the Heart bag and shoes a little while later.

And so began my collecting of matching sets!

Volks SDG Bianka released with Baby the Stars Shine Bright Robe A La Francaise dress set released at Dolpa Kyoto 5 2008
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Robe A La Francaise released in 2008
A rare find on EGL Comm sales, still hunting for the headdress.

Baby the Stars Shine Bright Pink Hawase Dress set released with the opening of Kamikaze girls the movie in Japan 2004
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Pink Hawase OP released in 2003, and 2007
Baby the Stars Shine Bright released SDG Momoko at the same time of the Movie release in 2004. Only 101 dolls were made with the first going to Kyoko Fukuda the actress who played Momoko in Kamikaze girls. Five other dress sets were sold along with this release, this is 1/5 of the dress sets. Another find on EGL, one of my friend in japan recently found the matching bag for me.

Baby the Stars Shine Bright White Hawase Dress set released with the opening of Kamikaze girls the movie in Japan 2004
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Pink Hawase OP released in 2003, and 2007
Baby the Stars Shine Bright 2/5 of the dress sets released in 2004. Found this year on EGL Comm Sales. Still hunting for the headdress

Baby the Stars Shine Bright Heart Apron, blouse and Gingham skirt set.
Baby the Stars Shine Bright 3/5 of the dress sets released in 2004. Headdress, skirt, blouse and apron all found from different sellers on EGL Comm Sales.

Volks SDG Lieselotte released with Gingham Check Rolled Rose Doll OP Dress dress set first released in 2002
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Gingham Check Rolled Rose Doll OP first released in 2002, and then in 2010.
A recent purchase made on Tumblr!

I have found the Baby the Stars Shine Bright BJD dress sets but still on the hunt for the matching "me size"

Baby the Stars Shine Bright Karami Baby doll JSK - Many releases have been made of this but the original is hard to find!
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Cinderella OP - Never seen for sale, still looking!
Baby the Stars Shine Bright Elizabeth OP - Seen twice for sale, once on ebay but missed as I just got back from Japan as was broke! Hoping to find it again!

Hope you enjoy my pictures and the cross over of my two hobbies!

That's pretty awesome. I'd heard of it hear and there over the last several years, after discovering Visual Kei music through finding out that Malice Mizer's Gackt had donned an outfit much like Castlevania'a Alucard in his Symphony of the Night incarnation, and that the band had a song with the same name as Symphony's Japanese version. For a while, I wasn't too fussed, but then in the autumn of 2008 I discovered the band Versailles, and found out through them about Alice and Pirates, and saw Vampire Requiem and the Azure vest. It then took another few years for me to take the plunge into buying and wearing any LOlita however, It was after Meeting my good friend Kraken_Terrorist and finding out that we'd both heard about this interesting Japanese fashion and were curious about it that we started talking about it. Bit by bit we found ourselves both slipping into actually wanting to wear it. In Jan 2011 I finally took the plunge and bought Vampire Forest (before xmas I'd been oogling over Queen's Coach (OP and skirt) in black and Masquerade Theatre in black and navy but these sold out before I could get them, grrr!). Literally days after I'd purchased VF, I was informed that VR was being re-released. Cue epic all-nighter stint of yacking to Kraken until the reservations opened and we smashed buttons until we got our skirts. Part of me is wishing now that I'd gone sod it and also tried to get a dress as well, in black of course. Thus began my collecting of stuff over the course of the next 18 months, which happily included Gathered Chiffon and the Azure Vest, both other wishlist items, being rereleased. I only lack black Queen's Coach now from that original wishlist.

I know! It's something that I find very interesting myself. Your way of getting into it via the dolls is pretty awesome. :) I had told myself I would get only a couple of dresses, nothing more. To be honest, I still consider myself more of an aristocrat than a lolita in terms of my style.

Lovely post! There's just something special about matching people clothes with doll clothes. I didn't realise you had so many matching sets! It's awesome to see them all documented like this :3

Your doll has very lovely eyes, she's just adorable! I find the red gingham dress is so sweet, you'll look so cute together!
..It's like you have all the dresses from Kamikaze Girls! XD
